The Literature Group Returns!

Following last week’s  bulletin we are pleased to inform Members that Proprietor, Dr Paul Burns, has agreed to take up  the role of facilitator of the Literary Group. Dr Burns will be giving a presentation at the next meeting, which will take place on its usual first Wednesday of the month slot (Wednesday 3 October) at 2:00pm in the Library. Full details of Dr Burns presentation will be distributed very shortly.

 

Spanish Wine & Tapas Evening Announced

Save the date in your diaries, on Wednesday 17 October we’ll be sampling a taste of Spain, at a Spanish Wine and Tapas Evening. Jon Atkinson of Scatchards will be on hand to disperse his knowledge as multiple wines are served to match the various tapas dishes which will be available. The cost of this event, which is limited to just 40 attendees, is to be finalised imminently, however we strongly recommend you book now to secure your place! More Music

The Club’s Music Interest Group continues to go from strength to strength with the announcement of its next two meetings. On Wednesday 10 October, the grand surroundings of the newly renovated Library Reading Room will be filled with live music from The Camira Wind Trio (https://theathenaeum.org.uk/event/music-group-the-camira-wind-trio/). Younger Members’ Events

Following the establishment of the  Younger Members’ Sub-Committee earlier this year a number of events are being organised specifically for the growing population of ‘Younger Members’ (Membership Categories B & C). Details of the first two events of this programme can be found below;

Film Night – Thursday 4 October, 6:00PM. Showing: DUNKIRK. £12.50 per ticket, supper included.

The Inaugral Younger Members Annual Ball – Saturday 17 November, 7:00pm till late, further details to be published in next week’s newsletter!

 

Judges’ Service Invitation & Sunday Lunch at the Athenaeum – 14 October 2018

As has been customary in recent years, the High Sheriff of Merseyside has kindly invited Athenaeum Members to The Judges’ Service to mark the beginning of the Legal Year, on Sunday 14 October at 10:30am at Liverpool Cathedral. If you would like to attend the service, please contact Gill Burrows on gillmburrows@aol.com . The Athenaeum will be opening at midday, and will be holding a lunch for members and attendees of the service (details can be found here) https://theathenaeum.org.uk/event/judges-service-sunday-lunch/. If you are attending the Judges’ Service but are not a Member of the Club, please contact reception (0151 709 7770 / reception@theathenaeum.org.uk) to book your place for the lunch.

 

For Your Information

On Friday, 28th September, the Club will be closed from 3:00pm to accommodate a Proprietor’s Function.

On Wednesday 12 December the Dining Room will be closed for a private function. The Newsroom will remain open as usual on this day.
