Edith Piaf was raised in the gutter. It was only her singing voice which rocketed her to stardom. Her part is played by Marion Cotillard, who looks and sounds so much like Edith herself that she won an Academy Award for best actress – the only time it has been won by an actress in a foreign film. The film is a real treat for Piaf fans.
