Library Purchase Fund
The Athenaeum Library has always relied on generous donations from Proprietors and others. This source has been supplemented by the purchase of new material, particularly when it is relevant to the specialist areas of study, that is books on subjects related to Merseyside in general and Liverpool in particular. Recently an appeal has been launched to set up a Library purchase fund for this purpose. Donations to this fund should be sent as cheques, payable to the Athenaeum, to the Honorary Treasurer, clearly marked for the Library Purchase Fund.
On occasion, generous individual Proprietors have paid for the re-binding and conservation of books of particular interest. Donations of libraries or individual volumes are always welcome though some selectivity of subject matter, condition and availability of space may make it impossible to accept all gifts. Books taken into the collection will be acknowledged both to the donor and by the insertion of a special book-plate. However, it is obviously necessary to be selective in items that are accepted, and donors must realise that only individual items or parts of a collection can be accepted.
It has been decided to start a collection of business histories or firms based in or associated with, Merseyside. Copies of material of this nature would be very welcome. Only bound published volumes are acceptable. The Library retains the right to refuse duplicate volumes or those not deemed relevant to the collection.
The Library welcomes legacies of books or other material deemed relevant to our specialist areas. However, it might prove impossible to accept a whole collection, and a degree of selectivity would be applied.
