10th October, 2018: Rashomon (1950) Directed by Akira Kurosawa, the film tells the story of the murder of a samurai from different, self-serving viewpoints – the bandit (Toshiro Mifune), the samurai’s wife (Machiko Kyo), the samurai himself (through a medium) (Masayuki Mori) and a woodcutter (Takashi Mimura). One of Kurasawa’s greatest films, he was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1952 for best foreign language film. (Running time:120 mins)
