SUMMARY:Victorian Women In Bed (Theatre Production)
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are available now for ‘Victorian Women In Bed’ live at The Athenaeum! \nFull details of how you can purchase your tickets can be found here – Victorian Women In Bed Tickets | The Athenaeum Liverpool | Sat 16th October 2021 Lineup (skiddle.com) \n‘Victorian Women in Bed’ is a theatre production\, written by Janet Goddard and produced by Barbara Hardy\, first staged in 2019\, comprising of five short plays featuring a newly crowned Queen Victoria and Florence Nightingale amongst others. The women are funny\, cross\, attractive and vibrant just as much as they are eccentric and odd. \n‘What is a bed for but to die in?’ asks angry\, dead Emily Bronte. \nWe snuggle down to participate in bed adventures with six bold women who decimate convention to be themselves. We question Emily’s analysis and love our bedbound women and the lives they reveal. \nThe Young Queen Victoria\, Elizabeth Barrett Browning\, Charlotte Bronte\, Sarah Bernhardt\, Florence Nightingale and Emma Hardy\, with the help of family and acquaintances\, show themselves to us through their bed tales. \n‘A woman has ten claws\, my darlings\,’ Sarah Bernhardt confirms\, proving that\, not then\, not now\, do women go to bed to give their brains a rest! Please come to discover what has drawn our women to their beds and share their secrets … \nStaring Tracey Ann Wood as a Young Queen Victoria! \n

SUMMARY:'The Outsiders'\, James Corbett & Roger Phillips
DESCRIPTION:Members and guests are invited to attend a special live interview and supper with Proprietors James Corbett and Roger Phillips. \nBroadcaster Roger Phillips will be interviewing author James Corbett about his debut novel ‘The Outsiders’\, which has been longlisted for the 2022 Portico Prize. \nReserve your tickets now and receive a copy on the night! \nLiverpool 1981. As the city burns during inner city riots\, Paul meets two people who will change his life: Nadezhda\, an elusive poet who has fallen out of fashion; and her daughter Sarah\, with whom he shares an instant connection. As the summer reaches its climax his feelings for both are tested amidst secrets\, lies and the unravelling of Nadezhda’s past. It is an experience that will define the rest of his life. The Outsiders moves from early-80s Liverpool\, via Nadezhda’s clandestine background in war-torn Europe\, through to the present day\, taking in the global and local events that shape all three characters. In a powerful story of hidden histories\, lost loves and painful truths ambitiously told against the backdrop of Liverpool’s fall and rise\, James Corbett’s enthralling debut novel explores the complexities of human history and how individual perspectives of the past shape everyone’s present. \n  \nSupper will follow the event in the Dining Room. \n  \nYou can book your tickets now via the Members’ Area\, or alternatively by contacting the office on 0151 709 7770/reception@theathenaeum.org.uk.
