The treasures of the Athenaeum Library, contained within the Committee Room / Strong Room, have been frequently used for tours and publicity purposes. However, the library’s main collection, features significant resources covering a wide selection of topics. Presented by Dr Andrew Caine, this talk illustrates the Athenaeum’s holdings on one of the key events of the twentieth century, the Russian Revolution of 1917. The centenary of this epochal moment in world history, which saw the overthrown of Tsar Nicholas II and the Romanov dynasty, and the eventual rise to power in October 1917 of the revolutionary Bolshevik party, headed by Vladimir Ilych Lenin, provides an opportunity for the library staff at the Athenaeum, to demonstrate the institution’s holdings on the subject.
