AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951) Dir. by Gene Kelly, with Leslie Caron.
Gene Kelly made three great musicals – On the Town, Singin’ in the Rain (his most popular film) and An American In Paris. Which is now mostly forgotten. Kelly is an artist, and the film ends with the terrific American in Paris ballet – perhaps the most remarkable in the cinema – based on the work of the great Impressionist painters. The score includes several Gershwin numbers.
