Heritage Open Day

After huge success at our sold-out Open Day last May, we are delighted to announce that the Athenaeum will be hosting a second event on 11th September 2016, as part of the Heritage Open Days weekend.

The Open Day will give members of the public a unique opportunity to view the building and its treasures through a guided tour. Guests will be able to view the elliptical staircase, the beautiful Newsroom and the Library, described once as ‘one of the handsomest rooms in Europe’. A selection of hidden treasures from our library and archives will also be on display for the perusal of our guests.

Attendees from our previous Open Day said:

‘Wonderful, loved the description of the history of the Athenaeum, the exhibits on display, the library and the plentiful helpful people around to discuss the building, the prints on the wall etc.’

‘It was especially wonderful to have chats with proud Liverpool people, proud and knowledgeable about their city, its history and the place of the Athenaeum in the city.’

‘I found the whole building and experience to be absolutely fascinating.’

The tours will start every hour from 11am, through until 3pm and will last approximately one hour. There will be refreshments on sale and talks in the Newsroom throughout the Open Day.

Visits and tours of the Athenaeum are by booking only and are complementary, as part of Heritage Open Days weekend.

Due to high popularity, this Open Day is now sold out. If you would like to be added to a wait-list, please contact Anna Corbett on peo@theathenaeum.org.uk with your name, phone number and tickets required.
