Who are you?
David Brazendale, former Library Chairman and current Honorary Secretary of The Athenaeum.
What is your greatest achievement?
Assuming this refers to achievements in the Athenaeum my greatest success has been seven years as Chairman of the Library Sub-committee and obtaining a grant from the National Lottery. During one year we had over 500 students and visitors using the Library
Can you give one interesting fact about yourself?
I am now working on my third book concerning the history of the Athenaeum.
What brought you to The Athenaeum?
It was the Rector of Liverpool Canon Frayling who suggested that I should join and proposed me.
Is there anything you would change about the Athenaeum?
The Athenaeum has survived, alone amongst the many similar organisations in Liverpool, it has altered and evolved to survive, I would leave organic change to allow the Institution to meet contemporary demands.
Do you have any Athenaeum memories or stories that you wish to share?
I am fortunate enough to take part in the annual gentleman’s lunch at Christmas. Where else would you eat alligator?
What would you say to anyone considering joining the Club?
That if you enjoy good conversation, good food, meeting a wide variety of people and if you are interested in the city and the world and most of all want fun join!
