School Debates – 11th March 2014

The Athenaeum continued it’s involvement in Liverpool life last week playing host once again to the school debates.

It was a very enjoyable day for both the school involved and also the numerous Proprietors who took part,

Three topics were debated, the subjects & results were as follows;

The Debate subjects were

 

  • Will HS2 have a real business benefit to Liverpool or could the money be better spent on supporting businesses within the city?

Motion carried 8 to 5

  • Is Hydraulic  Fracturing (Fracking) a good idea?

Motion carried 8 to 7

  • As 16 and 17 year olds are by law able to take on a wide range of responsibilities is it time to give votes for 16 and 17 year olds in all public elections and referendums?

Motion carried 8 to 7 on Speakers casting vote

We look forward to inviting the schools back to the Institution in the near future.
