Sir David Maddison Opera Prize 2021

I am delighted to announce that the Sir David Maddison Opera Prize 2021 held in association with The Royal Northern College of Music, will be staged at The Liverpool Athenaeum on the evening of Friday June the 18th, with arrivals from 6.30pm and commencing at 7pm.  The evening will follow the same format as in previous years with a champagne reception on arrival, and a two course supper served in the Members dining room during the performance interval.

Social distancing will be in place to ensure that Performers, Audience members, and Club staff are safeguarded, though the measures planned should in no way interrupt or spoil the evenings proceedings.   Lady Indira Maddison has graciously accepted an invitation to attend the event, and will be presented during the course of the evening with last year’s trophy as a personal keepsake.

The six world class singers who should have contested for last year’s aborted (due to Covid) Sir David Maddison Opera Prize, have accepted my invitation to perform at this year’s event, with one who’s home is actually New Zealand !

They are Liam Karai,Madison Horman,Naomi Rodgers,Peter Brooks, Erin Fllur, and Gabriel Seawright.

The distinguished Judges for the contest are confirmed as Athenaeum Proprietor and Liverpool Cathedral Director of Music Lee Ward, Renowned Opera Tenor Nick Hardy, and Lifelong Opera Afficiardo Tanya Robins’     Full details of the Opera Prize event to include the Contestants biographies, and the Interval supper menu, will be posted in due course on the Athenaeum website calendar together with any other relevant information.

Due to the necessary social distancing there will be only a very limited number of tickets available to attend the Opera prize event , so it is suggested you contact Jack Birley to express your interest at your earliest convenience.  Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible for what I can confidently predict will be a memorable evening of favourite arias from the wonderful world of opera, sung by some of the Stars of the future.

Warmest wishes to all,  David and Tanya Cox.
